I have two packs of Arrow Gruts on the way from Hasbro. I have the one I bought Sunday that I didn't open that I'm going to save for the Nov. 4th entry fee. I have one in service, so that's potentially 3 sets of Blade Gruts and Arrow Gruts.

If I combine 3 squads of Arrow Gruts and 2 Swog Riders, what would you use to flesh out an army of 400 or 500 points?

I haven't played wtih this army yet but Mimring and Krug seem like obvious choices. Of course you won't have much melee. Only go Arrow Gruts X2 perhaps?

Yeah... and that's what's prompting the question. Maybe having more than 2 squads of Arrow Gruts isn't worthwhile. Since I'll have three unopened packs in my possession soon, maybe I want to open just one (making my total 2 squads), one is already slated for a prize for the 4th so maybe the last unopened pack should stay that way for trade bait.

yep Krug and Mimring... gotta utilize one or both of them to get the benefits of the bonding. I have never played with more than 2 squads of Arrow gruts by the way. They can actually start to do some damage if they get high ground and have a swog or two adjacent. If they have 2 swogs adjacent, I believe the bonuses stack as well.

...and the reason I haven't tried this yet is because I'm in need of a 2nd squad of gruts...

Yep, they stack!

If I remember correctly, SpiderPoison used this army to win at GenCon in 2006:

Arrow Gruts x3 120
Swog Riders x3 75
Raelin 80
Krug 120
Total: 395

One of my personal favorites - no need to mess around with pesky order markers:

Arrow Gruts x3 120
Swog Riders x4 100
Krug 120
Mimring 150
Total:490 (these days, I'd throw in Isamu for good measure...)

Personally, I'd keep all three Orc packs and start looking for some swogs ;)
