Well, Tog (Dave) showed me (and the rest of us I believe) the power of the soulbourg swarm last sunday. Krug was turned into troll flavored lunch meat in one round of attacks... no small feat! This is an awesome army. The Gladiatrons and blastatrons are well made units with a lot of synergy and bonding. My question is: what tactics could be used to win vs. this army. My lil Bro held his own against it w/ a Zombie/Mimring/arrow grut Army, and said he took out quite a few units with fire breath... he also said the rise again special power of the zombies helped...

One tactic I thought of was to use multiple figs (knights, romans, zombies)and keep them in large adjacent units as they traverse the battlefield. This would minimize the number of gladiatrons that could gain adjacency in a swarm... other than that... I think strong ranged units with high mobility would be the best bet... Braxus, Mimring and Nilf come to mind... Krav's might give em trouble as well.... Suggestions :?:

Mimring decimated me when I used them. Vs it If you have range where Glad's can't reach them it doens't work out well either. I'd say units with multiple attacks work the best for they can take out any Glad's near them and Blast's in range. Try to space out units so the Glads can't Cyber Claw too many at a time. And when facing this army and using a heavy hitter, don't put one Order Marker on him and leave him. If he get's there then he'll die quickly. Send smaller units to tie up Glads then range support.

Here's an Army for you:

Marcus
Sir Gilbert
4th Mass x3
Rats x2
525 points

Tie up the opponents figs with the rats, and take aim with an attack of up to 5 with Wait and Attack Aura.

Nice, but sir Gilberts attack aura only works on units with a range of 1... but I see your point... standard tiem em up and blast em!

I think I may get something aswell. Gilbert could let them move without getting rid of their bonus and is also valiant? Is that the strategy? If only they bonded....

Gil would give them extra movement... but if the 4th mass move... even with his special conditions...they still dont get move wait then fire bonuses.

Oops. RTFC.

Try this then

Taelord
Marcus
Mass x 2
Rats x2
Guilty (because you would have 30 pts to burn)

I played the same 530 pt army all day based on this post: http://www.getphpbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=275#275

The Maps we played are the ones being used for the Tree Town Open, where they are playing 530 point armies. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Seems to me 2-3 squads of rats are pretty good insurance against a glad/blast combo. TOG has included them in both of the armies listed above. Tying up the glads with low-cost filler units leaves the 1A 2D blasts vulnerable to your own ranged units, or to fast/flying melee troops.

The zombies were the real problem there. The map was so big, that the glad/blast combo just wasn't very effective against the zombies. That, Q10 getting the zombie onslaught (I rolled blanks again, and Emilio can just plain roll.

While playing Bill and the 4 player games, I was out-rolling most of the time. During Emilio's game. I couldn't roll to save my hide. Had X17 not been my last fig, I would have lost.
