For our last tournament we used a total of six different maps... I say we go with six maps this time around as well. If you want to nominate a map, post here with a link to it. The maps should come from the Battlefields of Valhalla thread located below... but all maps will be voted on/considered:

My nominees (click on links for downloads):

If You Can't Take the Heat by Dignan.
1 SotM, 1 VW, 1 TJ. Interesting lava/swamp combo. Symmetrical, but I too am ready to try something other than "Fire Isles". On the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of "Hot Heights".

Dolin's Switchback also by Dignan.
1 RotV, 1 TT, 1 RttFF. Gotta have Tundra in January! Nice looking somewhat symmetrical tundra map. Build specifies slippery ice/light snow - but we could always play it with normal ice, also.

Sidewinder by Gamebear.
1 RotV, 1 TT. Another nice looking Tundra map. Gamebear specifies heavy snow, normal ice - and I'll trust him here.

Marpesia's Glory by Gamebear.
1 SotM, 1 TJ, 1 FotAK. Very cool looking Swamp/Castle combo. The trees are used to block off the tops of the castle towers, preventing figs from landing there without resorting to special rules. Pretty cool. Update - now up for review for BoV.

Winter Holdout by Jexik.
1 RotV, 1 TT. Yeah, yet another Tundra variant. Completely asymmetrical - based on Forsaken Waters from Hasbro. This one was used at GenCon, and is up for review by the BoV. I've never won a tourney game on it ;)

Mole Hills - Jungle Edition by Jonathan, modified by Rychean.
1 RotV, 1 TJ. Gorgeous map! Another GenCon battlefield. Based on an existing BoV map, spiced up with Jungle terrain. Looks and plays great.

Darkmantle and I played a couple games on division tonight... I really like this map!

I'd also like to nominate:

Cant see the jungle... by Dignan

http://www.heroscapers.com/community/do ... ile&id=951

It has a seperated/scattered start zone that may prove interesting in a competitive setting. Check it out.

Anyone else have map suggestions??? going once...going..twice...

We really need to get these chosen ASAP.

At a glance, the only thing I don't like about that map is when you split up a starting zone like that it potentially screws over 2 spaced figures. As a guy who tends to play armies with more 2 spaced figures than normal, I see that there are many armies with 24 or less hexes that would not be able to fit in their starting zone. If there was some way around that, like making sure every starting zone section has an even number or spaces, I think it would fix any objections I would have.

All of the maps suggested sound good. I am not sure about "Cant see the jungle" because I have never played on a map with starting zone like that. My gut reaction is to say no for this tournament until everyone tries it than consider it for the next one. The only map nominations I have are:
Embattled Fen - Used in the past and I like this map
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/do ... ile&id=134

Arctic Divide - in honor of being winter as already stated

I agree...2-spaced figure armies could be at a disadvantage. Hopefully they will alter the map a bit to address this. Maybe we can use it in the next tourney like Bobofdeathsdad suggested. I really like the idea of seperated start zones...but for now consider it out.

I think "cant see the jungle" would be a great map to have at this tourney...the biggest reason is that nobody has seen or played this map before. Getting it built with a few weeks of playtesting would put the map on the forums, whether it be positive or negative feedback. And if the only reason for not adding CstJ to the map pool is the ability (or lack thereof) to place double hex figures...I say throw it in and make people really think about what armies they are gonna bring.

Either way...Ive posted at Scapers, and Ill post it here as well, I was able to secure Jan. 2nd off of work, so Ill be there regardless! See you guys on the 3rd...

Here's a final list of maps I compiled. If no one has any complaints, then kahrma can add them to the official tourney thread...Very "Gamebear Heavy"... but all very good maps which incorporate all the terrain types.

Sidewinder by Gamebear.
Tundra map

If You Can't Take the Heat by Dignan.
Lava/Swamp/Jungle combo

Marpesia's Glory by Gamebear.
Swamp/jungle/Castle Combo with innovative use of trees.

Division By Mooseman.
Road/Castle terrain wih water dividing the start zones.

Badru valley By Gamebear.
Forrest/Road combo
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/do ... ile&id=367

Arctic Divide By UranusPChicago.
Tundra

Sounds fine. For "Arctic Divide", are we going with Light Snow, Normal Ice? This one can be a bear if we use optional tundra movement rules.

For "Sidewinder", I've got a feeling Heavy Snow, Normal Ice specified by Gamebear will work fine.

As soon as we iron out these last few details, I'll be ready to post.

I vote for light snow, normal ice.

It's been noted in our tourney thread that there are no glyph positions specified in the build instructions for "Division".

I'm thinking we should just play it as-is, with NO glyphs.
1. We won't have to decide where to put them.
2. We already have maps with 2 glyph positions, 1 glyph position...so "no glyph positions" kinda follows
3. Glyphs can be "swingy"
4. We won't have to decide where to put them.

Any thoughts?

Yep...no glyph simply adds to the diversity of our maps... I say leave it as is.

In my opinion fewer glyphs is always better.

Darkmantle & I were talking last night...and he brought up the fact that Badru valley has a static attack +1 glyph on it. Since we are not using the attack +1 glyph...I thought it best to clarify that we will be using a random glyph in that spot instead. Correct?

Random glyph sounds fine to me.
