Okay, so the date is set. Now we begin the process of hammering out the details. I say we stick with the same start times we've used in the past: Registration at 12:00 PM, game play begins at 1:00 PM

As for army point totals, I say we start with the standard 500 then roll a 10 sided dice and multiply the result by 10... giving us a total of anywhere from 510 - 600 points, also the same way we've done it in the past. Keep it simple 8)

Thoughts?

Sounds fine, though I hope we don't wind up playing 520, 540, or 550 ;)

How 'bout glyphs? Should we stick to the same ones, or try something different? Last time we went with:
Dagmar - Initiative +8
Astrid - Attack +1
Valda - Move +2
Gerda - Defense +1

I've seen a number of games that went one way or another depending on the glyphs. Might be interesting to tone the glyphs down a bit, or ditch them alltogether. Maybe:

Wannok - Wound - At the end of every round, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1, the figure on the Glyph receives one wound. If you roll a 2 or higher, you may choose an opponent who must give one wound to any figure he or she controls on the battlefield. (Just realized - I've been playing this wrong! I've never done the D20 part...)
Dagmar - Initiative +8
Lodin - Lucky D20 (D20 +1)
Oreld - Intercept Order (Temporary glyph) - When one of your figures stops here, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1 - 9, nothing happens. If your roll a 10 - 20, you may remove one random Order Marker from an opponent's Army Card.

Well... I'd be okay with just playing 500, 510 or 530 and skiping the random roll.

As for glyphs, I say we keep the standard ones and throw in a new one... maybe:

Oreld - Intercept Order (Temporary glyph) - When one of your figures stops here, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1 - 9, nothing happens. If your roll a 10 - 20, you may remove one random Order Marker from an opponent's Army Card.

or

Lodin - Lucky D20 (D20 +1)

How about this one:

Massive Curse Roll a D20, on an 8 or greater realize how stupid this glyph is an choose not to go to the tournament that is using it :)

Dont forget to shoot off a few emails with links to your tournament site. Also, register it under the 'Events' area at Scapers to further advertize...

Some people have minimum requirements for attendants, but based on what I saw when I was down a few months ago...you shouldnt have any issues with prize support.

I recommend housemousegames.com and wargamersheadquarters.com for a couple gift certificates. Also, search around your community for T-shirts, or other businesses to throw in a bit of support. You would be amazed at how many people would be willing to throw out a couple of products your direction if you promis to advertize their name or company.

Im going to try making it down for another tourney in KC, but not guaranteed on this one. Weather and funds might be bad around that time of year. For now, put me down as probable.

How about we go with the standard 500 pt. army? It feels like we haven't played 500 points in a while because we've been practicing for various tournaments. Also, I say we throw in these glyphs just to spice things up a bit...although not as spicy as massive curse or summoning  :

Instead of the regualr attack +1:
-Unique attack +1
-Common attack +1
also...
-Intercept Order (Temporary glyph) - When one of your figures stops here, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1 - 9, nothing happens. If your roll a 10 - 20, you may remove one random Order Marker from an opponent's Army Card.
-Lucky D20 (D20 +1)

What say you all?

Okay guys, we need your input on what you think about the above suggested items.

I am now in the process of trying to secure multiple "donations" from various gaming businesses for prize support. They decide how much $$$ in gift certificates they provide by the number of people we have signed up to attend. Therefore, we need to decide on the army points, maps, glyphs, etc... so we can get our signup sheet on heroscapers populated ASAP. Hopefully we will have a very nice prize table for this tourney and once we establish a relationship with these businesses they will continue to provide us with prize support donations. We are also thinking of trying to get T-shirts printed. If any of you have any suggestion in that dept please let me know.

I'll leave this thread going for about a week or so... after that we'll take your suggestions, make some decisions and get this baby rolling.

Thanks guys!

I don't have a problem with any of those.

Me either - sounds fine!

Also, any suggestions for a name?

KC New Year's Scapetacular?
KC New Year's Hextravaganza?
KC Hextreme New Year?

I would say I agree with pretty much all of that. I do not like the massive curse, the attack +1 (common and unique attack +1 are fine though), or the summoning glyph, but am fine with pretty much any of the others I can think of off the top of my head. I like 500 or more points, get to see some characters that don't make it to tournaments as often.
As far as names, I liked
KC New Year's Hextravaganza and KC Hextreme New Year

LoL... Great minds think alike. I have pitched the idea to "Dr. EJ", and he is considering it. And if the Kyle/Karl collective agree... then I guess we're done here LoL  (although we could use some map feedback...either that or Kahrma and I will act as the reigning map nazi's and your God given map freedoms will be crushed under our boots of map choosing awesomeness!)

Edit: Oh yeah, BTW, I managed to score us $100.00 worth of gift certificates from wargameheadquarters.com as prizes ($40.00 x1 & $20.00 x4). I think I'll also be able to get some from housemouse games as well. Sould be a much more diverse prize table this time around...

Sounds like we're in agreement re: points & glyphs. I went ahead'n posted'em on the "other" site.

Any other name ideas, or should we run with one of these?

Also, I take it we're going with HS boosters (or equivalent) for entry?

I too like KC Hextreme New Year, and yes, entry fee should be a booster, or equivlent heroscape item.

I don't like glyphs. I'm too old to remember by the next round that I control a glyph. :? They do change the strategy of the way certain maps and games are played.

I like the Idea of 500 pooints plus the roll of a 10 sided die. Everybody has spent too much time already analyzing a 500 point army. Of course getting too high in the 500's run the risk of exceeding the 24 hex start limit.

I suggested the name "Scapen' In the New Year" a while back. I think that any of the other names suggested are better than mine. I like Kahrma's use of KC in the name.

I'm ready to sign up to bring some maps as soon as they are picked.

Heres whatya do, get a small pad of sticky notes, and write down the glyph your on, then put it next to your unit cards. Then you'll remember everytime you look at your cards. I HATE it when I risk a unit to take a good glyph...then totally forget that I have it when it comes time to roll the dice.

I could also go for 510 or 530. What do the rest of you think?

I like either 500, I nearly forgot that was supposed to be the standard army, because we haven't used it in so long constantly preparing for tournaments with other point limits, or 530 because more is always better :)

That sounds good and all, BUT, I kinda dont wanna risk $13 just for getting a booster that I might already have(as in a hero pack).

We're playing for prizes? I thought we played for braggin' rights, and the prize was just a bonus...
