How do we set up the ladder rankings prior to any matches? Random ranking :?:

I'll try and get this set up this weekend, if not tonight, so we can have our first challenges next week, played on the 9th. I will find a way to seed everyone that registers into the ladder.

...And thus everyone understands why Dan is on the bottom rung, behind the 9yo girl. :P

Negative. You will draft from this pool week to week. Unless the majority wants to be able to edit their pool week to week. Feel free to edit until around, say Tuesday or so, at which point I will post the ladder from current registrants so challenges can begin for March 9. [/b]

My preference would be for more flexibility with our draft pools. How 'bout:

1. Draft pools may be changed at any time, except:
a. within 72 hours prior to a casual game day.
b. within 24 hours prior to posting a challenge.
c. after a challenge has been posted (both challenger, and "challengee").

Any thoughts? (I'll be happily participating either way, but thought I'd throw these out there) :)

Or we could just up the draft points from 800 to say 1000...

My vote, it should be 1000, having two full armies isn't a problem for me. It will help against people having a specific counter to your army if they don't know what specifically you will be playing. And What about something like either saying you can change your pool once every other week or change up to 300 points of your army each week or something along those lines?

Hmmm. All good ideas.

1) Increasing the pool to 1000.
2) Pools may be changed to any extent, but may not be changed after Midnight on the Monday before Casual Play, at which point challenges may begin.

This should give everyone the time to put their pool together and place a challenge, while not allowing anyone to specifically counter-draft their opponent week-to-week. 'Run whatcha brung', if you will.

Awesome! I like it! Much simpler than what I proposed, but does everything I'd hoped. Nice job Dave [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Only problem? (if you can call it that) I've got a couple 800 point pools worked out - time to start re-tooling for 1000

I definitely plan to participate, I just need to read over the rules and make sure I understand everything before posting. My plan is to be there the 9th, so I certainly want to join in.

I think I'm interested, despite the fact that I've read the rules and still don't understand the army drafting.

I have some interest in the laddar play, but have a couple of questions.

I know that it is set up so that not everyone has to be present each week. I would like to know how often I would have to participate to be included. The spring months are always busy for me. I have 2 younger sons playing soccer and they sometimes have games Sunday afternoons. Trip to Colorado with my oldest son. Stuff my wife wants me to do.  And who knows what else.

1st question: If my son and I can only make it 1 or 2 sundays a month is it worthwhile to sign up or would that cause too many problems for the rest of the league?

2nd question: Are there any penalties for turning down a challenge?

3rd question: I don't have any RTTF sets. :( Will be very hard for me to make any of the maps if I challenge. The rules say that the defender gets to choose the map if the challenger can't supply it. Is there any way to get help from others in making a map?

So if I read the rules correctly I'll need my 1000 points done by midnight tomorrow?

I may have missed something, how does drafting work? Are we talking a true consecutive card-by-card draft that is to be done right before the game like in the Heroscape rules?

That's the whole idea of a ladder over a league. Ej can only make it about once a month as well.

Eternal ridicule and public mockery. If you are referring to being unable to play, because your not there, This shouldn't become a problem. Generally, you know in advance if you'll be there or not. However, if it becomes an issue of ducking a challenge, I'll treat it as a forfeit, and you'll drop just like you lost the match.

Trees are in pretty short supply right now, and the NO-TREE BoV maps are outnumbered 4-7. My intent was to make it easier to decide who would bring what maps, not to really 'penalize' the terrain-impaired. This needs some additional discussion.

Yes. I would like for folks to start challenging tomorrow, so everything can be in place for Sunday.

I'm relatively certain ya'll can handle this as gentlemen, and work it out either way. Personally, I'm probably going to have an idea who I am going to play anyway. However, that doesn't mean I'm not going to look at what you have and think about last minute adjustments.

If we need to make a rule one way or the other, we can certainly do so.

I say we agree to do an actual draft proir to the match... that way, counter drafting techniques can be utilized... besides it just sounds like more fun to me that way. 8)

"Actual draft" as in each player may draft from BOTH players' draft pools - creating somewhat random armies? Or is the plan still for each player to draft from his/her own draft pool - essentially choosing one of a few pre-made armies?

Even if we're using our own pool, I agree a card-by-card draft would be cool, and allow for some degree of counter-drafting as Dan pointed out.

Yes... An actual card by card draft from your selected pool of 1000 points. Probably not a lot of counter dafting oprions...but maybe a few, who knows.

When can we begin challenges? Tomorrow? So the tuesday before casual play day right?

Also, we should come up with some kind of prize for the league winner at the end of the 2 months... any ideas?

I have no idea. I've been so busy the last few days, I'm pretty incapable of coherent thought. And it's actually three months, about six sessions, depending on where tourneys fall into the equation.

...guess we have 3 months to figure it out then. We could all chip in $5.00 and get another trophy and a gift certificate to house mouse or hasbro.

So... now that we are are tournament free for a couple months are we going to set up another Ladder competition? I think it'll see much more play this time...

Given the relatively few number of games played, I don't see any reason to not just let it run through June as it is.
