...just checked my calendar of events. I'm running an 8 mile trail race the same morning... Not sure how I'll feel afterwards :? . The sight of Q-9 and stingers might make me hurl [smilie=rlp_smilie_207.gif] . LOL I'll add myself to the "maybe" list.

Or Arctic Divide... or Molten Ground...

I think I received more threats of violence during that tournament than at any other time in my life... recess excluded, of course.

I actually like Spineback and I didn't really have a problem with the lava map. The ice one was a pain in the ass though.

I got one practice game in with Dave when we set up the maps Saturday. That's the only time I've played on Lava. I've yet to play on Ice/Snow.

Tip: Vipers don't like the lava.

I need to thank Dave, Zack and my daughter KC for setting up the maps.

It is my understanding that none of the tourney players from HSrs.com like Arctic Divide. I was kinda surprised that ej picked it up.

When it was suggested that we break out the different terrain I looked for Ice maps that I thought would work. I found two... AD and that other one... south something. Anyway, I went with AD because I'd seen it mentioned in some other tourney reports and it looked like it had a smaller footprint than the other one.

The other funny thing was that during selection it looked like the ice ones were being disfavored. I finally put up a poll saying 'Here's a group of normal terrain maps and here's a group with one lava and one snow map. Which do you want?' The normal group got no votes.

The April tournament will have 4 of the maps selected by the bottom 4 returning contestants. Everyone - feel free to nominate maps for selection either here or on the main 'scapers site.

Question - did having stickers on the starting zone and glyph hexes help?

One more thing... I thanked all the contestants for participating, I thanked Dave Cole, Zack and KC for setting up the maps and Gatekeeper for hosting. I never thanked TOG for running two hugely successful tournaments to show how it's done. Thanks, Dave. If you hadn't made it look easy I never would've been brave enough to try it.

Eh, don't sweat it EJ, I get threats of violence every day of my life! It keeps things "interesting". [smilie=rallysmile.gif]

I actually liked the lava map... the fact that the highest point was on lava really made you think... especially after you forget to "think" and loose an entire squad of stingers to it! LOL

I'd like to see broken skyline  in the next tourney. Since Emillio finished in the bottom 4 I'll see what he wants to use... He did mention he wanted something with extreme highground on it.

Definitely. Not having to look at a schematic to determine glyph placement is nice. The only problem came when a couple of stickers were missing from the leading edge of the starting zone on "Embattled Fen". The player beside me didn't realize they had 2 road spaces in their starting zone. If you're playing a smaller army, a space or two would be easy to miss.

On Arctic divide, from the discussion I heard some games were played using heavy snow/slippery ice movement rules - and some weren't. My opponent and I played using normal movement rules. According to the boards, they had the same problem with Tundra maps at GenCon in 07'. I like Tundra maps for the glaciers - I think heavy snow/slippery ice hurt melee.

I didn't get to play on Molten Ground during the tournament, but I did playtest on it several times. I like it, but if it's your first time on Lava it's easy to forget and screw yourself on turn 3! Most people won't make the same mistake twice, though ;)

My hands-down favorite of the maps played was "Marr Highway". That was my first time playing on it, and it was a blast! Really makes you think about troop deployment - it's a long way to the center of the map, so you have to decide right away wether to attack quickly or advance en masse.

I like the concept behind Marr Highway but I don't feel like it's balanced. Someone should give a go at redoing it.

As for Arctic, I agree w/ Kharma. The map itself is great, the double move ice would just be brutal to melee. (My opponent had an all ranged force so I wouldn't know for sure)

I found that ice took a little getting used to as far as who had height and what it required as far as movement. It certainly made flying units more valuable though.

I thought the lava map was just fine. Not one of my favorites but I had no problem with it.

Since it sounds like I'm not taking part in any Ladder madness I'm hoping to play something besides the same old 500 point duel to the death. I've heard tell of Steal the Bacon/Capture the Flag Heroscape scenarios. Has anyone seen anything concrete on that or do I need to start doing some searching?

If that doesn't work out I wouldn't mind trying the worst army tradeoff thing or something with more than 2 players.

I've seen these at HSers, but can't recall where.

I resolved the EJ challenge issue, so you and him will probably be getting it on Sunday, in addition to whatever else you want to do. I always have 'the Worst Army Ever' with me...

I am currently working on some campaign rules. Still have a way to go, but could be a nice diversion from standard scape.

I looked around on the main forums and couldnt find a serious attempt at them. Anybody seen any campain rules covering advancement, risk, loss and gain?

My campaign rules will cover:
Basic generic scenarios
Advancement of units
Reward for winning
Losses
resupply & reinforcements between battles
All will +s/-s will carry over from match to match.

check out HSCodex issue 2. It is supposed to have some campaign rules in it. I'd take a look, but I'm at work.
