Road Rampage does look like fun.

How 'bout a lava map? Hot Heights by Jormi Boced looks interesting.

That looks interesting, and would give me an excuse to finally use my lava terrain.

I've decided I want all different maps (8 for now). Everyone find one or two you like, I'll start a new Topic titled Topeka Map Selection, post your choices and then we'll do a poll in a couple of weeks. How does that sound?

Maybe some variety at least one with snow/ice, one with lava, one swamp, and one with maybe something with a castle, though the castle one would more likely be odd for a tournament map unless you are just talking columns or something like broken skyline

Let's also settle the AE/Rechets scoring thing. I know of at least two, maybe more instances during the tournament where the AE didn't drop. One other person echoed Dan in saying that there should be a penalty for losing the gamble of using the AE. Greg has presented the opposing viewpoint with a good set of examples. I understand both points of view, and I think the reason I'm leaning towards counting their points is because I agree with the penalty for the gamble bit, and I also think that the loser shouldn't be denied those points (it almost feels like 'hiding' those points from your opponent to me).

I'd like anyone with an opinion to chime in, even if it's just to post a Yes, count 'em or a No, don't count 'em post.

I can see it going either way, and not set in my argument, but my feelings are they should not get the points for them because they did not kill them. Losing points only factor in if you "Lost" the game, and losing points are supposed to be a refence to how much damage you did before you lost. Therefor lets say in scenario 1 I have AE and by some fluke I wipe out his entire army in round 1 without losing anybody, but AE didn't get dropped, should he get points?

In scenario 2 I still do well and wipe out his army without losing anybody, but he at least holds me off for 5 rounds, obviously doing better than scenario 1, but this time I had 5 rounds to try my AE drop and got it on round 4. So even though the opponent did better this round he got less losing points.

I hope I didn't type that to messed up for you to understand what I am trying to point out.

Kyle

No, I understood perfectly and it is goes pretty well with Greg's example. The "You didn't destroy them, so you don't get the points" is a very valid argument. I just feel that the other view at this point is still pretty valid, too.

If I bring Iskara to the fight, but she gets herself offed before she can summon the Rechets (because my opponent didn't want to deal with those WB Cartoon Rejects), then I definitely think that my opponent should get the points for not only Iskara but also the Rechets. In fact I would go so far as to say that if the conventional wisdom is that you need to destroy to score, then in that case you should absolutely get those points, because you actively took away my ability to summon them.

Luckily we've got a few weeks to hash this out.

Regarding the AE drop: I'm gonna stick w/ my original opinion.

I agree here. If Iskra is killed by the losing team before the Rechets are summoned, then by all means I think the losing team should get losing points for both Iskra AND the Rechets. The losing team actively prevented their deployment.

With the AE, the only way the losing team can prevent the drop, is to lose really really quickly. ;)

Re: gambling on the AE, I think the AE not dropping IS penalty enough for drafting them. If they don't drop, you still have to find a way to win while starting 110 points down against your opponent.

Whatever the decision, can't wait to play!

Hey EJ, thanks for adding me to the list. Go ahead and add Spence, Dustin and Brady to the list. Spence in particular has been up here with Special K and another guy named Mike these last two days playing on the big board I was telling you about so I wouldn't be surprised if one of them also wanted to be added later on (if possible).

If any of the above-mentioned guys have to back out I will let you know pronto!!!

I'm looking into alternate venues, since we've already reached our max and it's still 6 weeks out. I'll let everyone know what's going on hopefully soon.

UPDATE: After some discussion, we think we're going to stick with Gatekeeper. We can always use the hotel room idea for future events ($75 for a room that can hold around 36).

AE/Rechets debate:

I propose we say Rechets count towards losing points, AE does not count towards losing points, but they must both be included in the 24-hex starting zone count.

Anyone object?

Good news. We're looking into having a church basement available in April for a Heroscape tournament. This way we should easily accommodate as many participants as possible. THAT one I'll post on 'scapers and hopefully we'll see our friends from the North again.

For the Feb. 24th event we'll call the sign-up closed (TOG and Dylan, that still means I can upgrade you to Confirmed whenever you wish) and if we get one or two stragglers that shouldn't be too big a problem.

I picked up the "Heroes of Nostralund" and a pack of "Kilts and Commandos" today. If anybody would like to buy them from me ($11) to use as their entry prize that would be great. Ideally I want them to be used as the entry prize to make a slightly more diverse prize table and see a few more things that I know a lot of people don't have.

I'm going to have 10 maps set up, just in case we have 20 total. I'm expecting 1 or 2 walk-ins. Next time I'm at Gatekeeper I'll take down the signs.

So was that a yes or a no? :scratch

I've made the last minute decision that I'd like to go if you have room for me.

okaay, then I'm planning on coming...nervously. If it helps I think TOG said he wouldn't be able to make it.

You just gotta understand, though, that Gatekeeper has a much smaller gameroom. That's why I'm nervous... I'm going to make sure we've got the tiles to make enough maps, though, and if it means people are knocking elbows then so be it.

So come on down.

Also, I'd like to remind everyone that we're trying to arrange for a church basement in April one Saturday for a second tournament. I don't think I'll need to set a cap for that one, and I'll advertise it on the main site, too.

Things to remember to do on the day of the tourney:

a) Bring games to donate
b) Bring something portable to roll dice on
c) take a shower and pray everyone else does the same

There was mention of a carpool earlier, I am going to have to back out of that. My wife has a friend up there that we are going to go up early to visit. That being said, if you would like me to bring a map or two I think I can swing it now. I do have enough to build any of the maps for the tournament. I only have 1 tundra set, so I can't make 2 of those, but I could make one and one of any other one. Or just any other two.

I'm not sure I'm going to, but for an army I am considering I would need to borrow a Mittins (venoc warlord). I am not sure I'm going to play it, but no point in even considering it if I can't get ahold of one to use :)

Hey EJ, is there anything that I need to bring with me besides the guys? I would bring along my pride but I figure what's the point, I will just have to pick it up off of the floor anyway!

Leave your pride at home. It's safer that way. I keep my self respect in a shoebox under my bed and my good judgement in a little bottle behind the fridge.

Man you are fiesty!! heheh...

For what it's worth, Grey is going to tag along with us in hopes thaat he can jump into the event if possible. Otherwise, it still looks like Brady, Dustin and myself are a go. Spencer is going to be in town already that weekend so unless he forgets, he should be there too!

Looking forward to getting my backside handed to me again!

Just bring along photos to show Gatekeeper what a real comic/games store should look like. Actually, don't... they're helping us with our board game drive, so no need to piss them off.

Do you need us to bring any of the maps EJ?

At this time I should have three spare maps prepared by the Topeka guys I've infected... I mean introduced this game to. I might have to ask Gatekeeper, though, about more table space... we may have to have battles in the store itself at this point. On the floor.
