I haven't actually talked to David yet, but I am sure he will be interested. I know his two younger brothers have played the game before, but I am not sure if they would be able to do a full campaign. I have another friend who I know would be interested, but I am not sure if he would be able to make it to the games. My dad is also a potential player, but he usually doesn't like to game outside the family or some close friends. Anyway, as long as we have an even number of confirmed people we could start the campaign and then add players as the games went on. We would probably need to set a round limit as to how far in somebody could join or else things could get kind of strange at the end.

Quote:
I got the impression from talking to you guys that most everyone in the group bought a couple decks of Battleground when Drew first got them, but no one has really played the game much. I bought a starter set for the Men and the Undead back in November and did not have much of a chance to play the game until recently. I was kind of skeptical after my first few games because there were a lot of rules that I did not understand, and the game seemed kind of choppy. Well, after a few more tests I think I have finally gotten over the learning curve of the game, and I am enjoying it a lot.

The reason I bring this up is that I wanted to guage the interest level of everybody putting their cards to some use sometime. The Campaign set was just released (Drew has some, they are the same price as a normal deck) which supports, I think, up to 10 players. What I am suggesting is that, if others are interested, we start Battleground campaign as a group. We could each fight one battle every week (or two) at Pulp Fiction during our casual heroscape time (or at boardgame night on Sundays). At 1-2 hours per battle we would still have time for lots of 'scaping. We would need several terrain sets, and I think the campaign set is designed to work with the monsters and mercenaries decks as well, so we would have to look into that stuff. Let me know if anybody is interested. I might mention this to Drew next time I see him, just to see what he thinks.

Anyway, if Battleground doesn't appeal to anybody and you just want to get rid of your cards, then I might be interested in buying. At the moment I am interested in getting the reinforcement decks for the Men and Undead, and maybe one other complete army. If we decide to do the campaign, though, (therefore confirming that I will get some use out of Battleground) then I will probably pick up the campaign set, Monsters and Mercenaries, and some terrain. Happy 'scaping and gaming to everybody!

I'm one of the ones who bought some and I've played one game in the years I've had it. I never really got a handle on the rules but if you can teach I'd be interested in giving it a go. I'm not familiar with the campaign stuff but sounds interesting.

Cool, already one interested. The rules are kind of obscure at some points so I am hoping either Drew or somebody else at the store has a good understanding of them, because I still have some rule questions myself.

I started reading about the campaign set (Battleground: Kingdoms) on the internet. It appears that we could run a pretty big group with just one terrain set. It seems that the ideal situation would be that everyone have a complete army (of any faction) and one Monsters/Mercenaries pack in order to run the campaign, but we could probably make due with a couple Monsters/Mercenaries shared by the group. Does anyone who is interested have a terrain pack or Kingdoms deck? If not I will buy some for us to use (again, assuming that there is enough interest).

I would be interested as well. I have Lizard men, Undead + reinforcements, and orcs. I too am a little hazy on the rules, but I remember if you go to the forums on their web page they are very helpful to newbs. Donnie, a guy who plays Monsterpocalypse with us has also said he has some of the decks and is wanting to try them out. He'd probably be interested as well...

Sounds good. I think Kyle told me that he has an army as well. I am going to update the first post with a list of everyone who is interested. Once I talk to Drew and he gives us the go ahead, then I guess we can move this to the events section to make it official.

Just FYI, My only other day to game is Sunday. I'd love to take part in this campaign as it sounds fun, but I'd only be able to if we did this on sunday...probably in place of heroscape, maybe once a month?

Also, theres a guy named Ted that shows up at PF on Sunday nights to boardgame. I believe he's a rep for the company and actually did a demo for it at one time. He might be interested as well.

Okay, it sounds like Sunday will be the day. The only problem is David, and another one of my friends who is interested (ironically also named David), may have trouble getting off work. I guess if I pick up a copy of Kingdoms then we can always have another campaign going on a different day.

The weekly thing is subject to change depending on everyone's schedules, but here is my thinking. I am leaving in late June to attend the Naval Academy so I have very little time left in the near future. The other reason is that Battleground games don't last real long (maybe just slightly longer than a heroscape game, if you know what you are doing). There is a bit of bookkeeping after the games if you are running a campaign, but that probably brings the time only up to about 2 hours each time. I figured we could have it every week without losing too much heroscape time, but still get it done.

Now if we were to play 2 or 3 games per session that would cut the number of sessions down to about 3 or 4 and we could spread them out. I guess we can decide all this once we are positive we have a group to play the game.

That would be great. Like I said earlier, I have a pretty good handle on the rules, but I do still have some questions. If he could come, he could be our rules guru.

One thing I have heard about Battleground (and have seen in my limited experience) is that it could be a real pain to figure out some situations if you are a rules lawyer (which I definitely am). So it would be good to have someone who knows for sure what they are doing.

well I am interested but I really don't have availablity on sundays. Last Sunday was the first Sunday I haven't had to work all year. Kevin maybe you should go to price chopper and talk to Kay about that 8) Jacob is proably interested based on what he said at the tourny but his avalibilty is also sketchy as he can't drive.

I'd be totally okay with that. We could even have one day where we play multiple games in need be...

I have no idea how we coould get a hold of Ted...maybe Andrew has his number or could let him know?

Also... congratulations on the Naval Academy! That is Amazing! :o

I've got a Lizardmen starter pack, and two Undead starter packs (gifting error...). A "pocket" miniatures game was a pretty appealing concept at the time, but I've never played  Consider me interested.

Thanks. It is exciting and scary at the same time.

The more I think about it playing 2 or 3 games a session sounds better. Maybe we could play on the Sundays we don't have scape. Does that sound do-able for everyone?

You might want to pick up the reinforcements for one of the armies for use in the campaign, or maybe if David can't participate he could loan you some Lizardmen.

With me, Karl, Dan, and Gregg we have enough to start. If we are able to get ahold of Donnie and Ted that gives us two more, and David and David would bring it up to 8.

If we get in a game or two after 'scape this Sunday and everyone has a good handle on the game, do you guys want to try to start the next Sunday?

I'd be happy to help! It has been a while since I demo repped for YMG, but I'm game (pun intended).

I have decks I can lend for some games. Lizardmen, Undead, Men, Orc, Dwarves, Elves. I didn't get the High Elves or Umanzi, but I know people that did.

I proposed to Kevin that we get together and learn the rules to a satisfactory level before trying out a campaign.

When are you wanting to meet next? This weekend is bad for me...yard work, cleaning out the garage, Trolley Run, moving stuff into the garage from the house...yay.

Cool, glad you could join us. I agree about having at least one game day before we start the campaign. I was going to try to get a game in with Dan this Sunday, but that is only if we can squeeze it into the roster of events for that day. Next Sunday (the 3rd?) I don't think there is any heroscape or MonPoc events so If everyone wants to gather at the store at about 1:00, I think we could have at it for a few hours without much trouble. How does that sound?

Also Petru5, have you played any games with the Kingdoms expansion or the terrain pack?

Drew doesn't have the terrain pack for sale (that I know of, at least) so if no one else has one I will pick one up on the web somewhere.

Bad News, My wife had a death in the faminly and I'm not sure If/When I'll be able to show up on Sunday. I'll do my best to get there around 1-2pm though...

I have played with the terrain pieces before. They aren't very difficult.

Dan, sorry to hear about that. I hope your wife is doing okay.

Nope, Karl and I got two scape games in, but there wasn't any time for Battleground. Can everyone make it this Sunday at 1:00 for a few hours of battleground?

I can try to make it. It'll depend on my wife's work, as her company's Board of Directors is in town. I'd like to teach the rules to ya'll! Also, if I remember correctly, I may have a pack to give out (left over from my demo rep days). I'll have to check my stuff to verify, though...

Oops, yeah... I wish they could have left our scheduling alone, but it looks like Andrew scheduled his Monpoc around 31st century. I won't be out a Pulp until Sunday the 17th... sorry :(

Sorry, I have been gone a while. It has been busy here.

I was planning on coming up today around 1:00, and bringing a friend for Battleground. I cannot make the next two sundays (graduations), but you guys could still go if you want.

So is anyone planning on coming today?

edit:

If it works better for those who are available we could try to meet at 6:00 tonight, while they have boardgame night going on.
