I would like to hear your opinions on how the tourney went, from the theme to execution...

I think the tourney went extremely well. We were able to keep things moving at a fairly brisk pace (which allowed me to make a dinner date on time  )

Very interesting Theme. I had a blast and it REALLY forced me to think about the units I played. I (maybe it was just me) couldnt just grab my normal army and show up. Had to think about it and run some trials.

I too thought the tourney went "extremely well". A+ to Tog & son for keeping us on schedule and running smoothly. As for the theme... it was challenging, fun, and it changed the way you had to think to build and army... but I did miss my common units (STINGERS! ).

I was surprised that no one ran the elves. I was really hoping to see how that bonding hero concept worked out.

That was one of the few armies I managed to playtest. They were pretty evil with Morsbane but lose Ulglinesh and you're screwed.

I found the theme very interesting, it kept me from grabbing a typical army. I playtested several builds before deciding on the one I brought. I think a DnD theme for the next one would be cool, but it might keep some players away because they don't have the figs.

As far as running it, TOG & son did a great job. We had another commitment in the evening and were able to make it. I know running an event isn't an easy thing but they were able to keep things moving as well as could be expected given the nature of gamers (herding cats, LOL).

Overall, I and the little guys I brought had a great time and are looking forward to the next one. Let's do it again in April, not July!

A big thanks goes out to everyone that made it happen, including those that brought maps! Maybe next time I can be more of a team player and help out on the maps or in some other capacity.

I would also be interested in how others feel about another venue, like Game Cafe (Independence) or TableTop Games (Overland Park). I bet with a little social engineering we could get them to kick in some extra prizes (or dare I say... trophies) . I would certainly be willing to help out on that front and see what I could do. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll see if I can make it happen. :D

TableTop has a nice little game room but it is a little smallish- depends on how many people showed up and what other games they have going on at the time.

Back when this group was just forming we tried Game Cafe and didn't get the warmest of receptions from the owner. He didn't kick us out or anything just didn't seem all that interested/thrilled in us taking over the store with our giant plastic maps.

True.

Back then, however, space was a bit more limited. Since that time Game Cafe has opened up a downstairs gaming area, and even begun to expand into the space next door. Might be a bit more receptive, now.

That said, I've no complaints with Pulp Fiction. It's a great venue, and Pulp has been supportive from day one :thumbsup
